The Alagnak River is known in Alaska as being one of the best salmon and trout rivers in the state. The Alagnak River actually flows from two major lakes, the Nonvianuk and Kukaklek lakes. These two lakes and their tributaries are known for their Alaska trophy trout fishing. Part of why these tributaries support a great population of Alaska trophy trout is due in part to the million plus sockeye that swim past our Alaska fly fishing lodge every day starting June 29th through about July 15. These sockeye salmon of the Alagnak River spawn above lakes as part of their life cycle, and the tributaries load up with trophy size Alaska rainbow trout gorging on protein rich salmon eggs to add plenty of fat for the long Alaska winters. We fly out to these rivers to sight fish for trophy Alaska rainbows, timing the salmon spawn for the best possible trout fishing of the year!
As the two lakes rivers flow towards Bristol Bay with their perspective names, the Nonvianuk River and Kukaklek River, they branch together forming the Alagnak River. This occurs about 20 to 30 miles downstream from the lakes. This single river, the Alagnak, is one of the main arteries to Bristol Bay for not only the sockeye salmon, but also the mighty king salmon, silver salmon, chum salmon, and pink salmon. These 5 species of Pacific salmon are well represented in the Alagnak River system every summer.
Our Alagnak River fly fishing lodge is located at the mouth of the world famous Alagnak River, offering our guests the best possibility to catch numerous amounts of salmon on the fly daily within a very short ten minute or less boat drive daily. This daily program is substituted with trips to fish the famous brads of the Alagnak, and fly outs to nearby Katmai National Park. Please check out our corporate site for much more information on our lodge. THANK YOU!
